Opera takes over public spaces

Free outdoor activities are a focal point of the Festival’s programming, fulfilling its mission to make this art accessible to all. From July 21 to 31, 2026, the Opera and Operetta brigades will take to Québec City’s parks with their castelet, giving short performances exuding humour and charm.

The Opera Circuit, which combines an urban stroll with operatic rest stops, takes audiences on an adventure to discover the jewels of the city’s religious heritage. These outdoor activities allow a wider audience to discover opera in a friendly and accessible setting.

Dialogues of the Carmelites

Francis Poulenc’s tragic masterpiece, Dialogues des Carmélites (Dialogues of the Carmelites) will take centre stage at this 15th edition. Inspired by a true story from the French Revolution, this powerful opera—whose themes of courage and compassion have resonated with audiences for decades—will take on special significance, echoing the rich heritage of the Quebec's female religious communities.

Presented on July 28 and 30 and August 1, the three performances of Dialogues des Carmélites will feature Hélène Guilmette, Frédéric Antoun, Julie Boulianne, Florie Valiquette and Guylaine Girard, accompanied by the Québec Symphony Orchestra and the Opéra de Québec Choir.

Pieces that are accessible to all audiences

The program for this 15th edition offers festival-goers 13 days of total immersion and a variety of shows that novices and connoisseurs alike can appreciate.

L’hiver attend beaucoup de moi explores the strength and solidarity of women in the face of grief and unspeakable tragedy. For younger audiences, Fables lyriques pour petits et grands enfants reimagines La Fontaine’s fables in an accessible format that is perfect for families. Finally, Sing Your Heart Out! is a free evening performance on a vast outdoor stage featuring some of the greatest masterpieces from the world’s operatic repertoire—including several well-known pieces that many people recognize without even realizing they come from the opera!
