AERO Gatineau-Ottawa 2025: an event where sustainability was key

The 8th edition of AERO Gatineau-Ottawa drew nearly 10,000 visitors to enjoy military aircraft aerobatic demonstrations, a static display, and a nighttime show featuring drones and aircraft. The event also stood out for concrete actions aimed at being more eco-responsible.

To reduce congestion around the Gatineau-Ottawa Executive Airport, a shuttle network connected to the Société de transport de l’Outaouais public transit system and five park-and-ride lots were implemented. The organization supported these measures with a proactive communication strategy, including regular social media posts and newsletters sent out ahead of the event.

In total, eight shuttle buses—including two that were accessible to people with limited mobility—provided frequent service between the various service points, while an enhanced exit system made it easier for festivalgoers to get around. In addition, bicycle parking areas were set up nearby, as well as spaces reserved for people with limited mobility, located near the main entrance, with a focus on accessibility and inclusion.

Other sustainability efforts included implementing various complementary initiatives, including offsetting greenhouse gas emissions through the purchase of certified carbon credits. It also highlighted greener technologies, such as electric aircraft and drones, while installing drinking water stations to reduce the use of single-use bottles. The development of a green policy and the prioritization of local suppliers also demonstrate this commitment.
