Planning to visit the Bas-Saint-Laurent region this summer? Be sure to stop in Témiscouata to visit Fort Ingall, an historically accurate reconstruction of a British military post erected in 1839 during the Aroostook border conflict between the United States and Canada. Cannon and rifle fire demonstrations, military reenactments and archaeological exhibitions bring this unique historical site to life. A series of special activities will also be taking Fort Ingall by storm, for a summer full of interesting things to discover!

Take a fascinating trip back in time

On August1 and 2, 2026, the “Rendez-vous historique” event (website in French only) will be exploring pastimes of yesteryear. Reenactors in period costume will show what soldiers and civilians used to do in their spare time. Enjoy traditional games, skill demonstrations, entertainment and participatory activities in a friendly atmosphere.

This event provides a unique opportunity to delve into a more intimate facet of history and to learn about the simple traditions and pleasures that punctuated life at the fort.

Discover the art of using 19th century writing implements

Fort Ingall invites you to discover the fascinating art of quill writing in a workshop led by a guide (in French). You will learn the techniques used in the19th century: handling the quill, controlling the ink and making precise gestures. You will also learn how military personnel and civilians wrote letters and official documents long before the invention of modern pens. Next, you will get to try your hand at calligraphy, writing a text that will make an original souvenir of your visit. An activity that is sure to delight families and history buffs alike!

Stock up on knowledge at a coffee talk

On Sunday mornings in July and August, Fort Ingall invites you to its coffee talks (in French), an opportunity to learn more about military history, archaeology and life in the 19th century.

Each week, a different speaker will cover a captivating, well-documented topic in an accessible format tailored to a variety of audiences. Tea, coffee and muffins will be provided. The activity is free for admission ticket holders and members of the Témiscouata historical and archeological society.
