Three temporary exhibitions you won’t want to miss

The Museum has a rich and varied temporary exhibition program. In Wi’k+palu’k Sam Glodeo’q ta’n wetapeksitaq: Honouring the Belonging of Sam Glode, learn about Mi’kmaw ways of knowing and being, through immersive spaces, stirring soundscapes and interactive activities.

The River of Dreams – Impressionism on the St. Lawrence exhibition presents paintings by Quebec impressionists who captured a society’s transformation through their landscapes and urban scenes.

Finally, Pizandawatc / The One Who Listens, by Anishinaabe/French artist Caroline Monnet, explores memory, land and resilience through pieces made with wood, bronze, textiles and industrial materials.

A virtual reality experience

In Napoleon – The Immersive Saga, the Museum takes you back to the Napoleonic era in a 30-minute virtual reality experience. Put on a VR headset to witness the pivotal moments of Napoleon Bonaparte’s life as if you were there, from the Battle of Austerlitz to his final days on Saint Helena.

Witness epic clashes, strategic triumphs, bitter setbacks and personal reflections in captivating re-enactments. Powered by cutting-edge technology and immersive storytelling, this experience offers an entirely new way to learn about history, right up close with this fascinating historical figure.

Vast outdoor spaces

After a stop at the gift shop and the Panorama Café, continue your visit outdoors, on the Museum’s beautiful grounds along the Ottawa River. Families can enjoy the park and picnic areas and embark on the Outdoor Museum Quest, which turns the site into a discovery course.

There’s also the Canadian Museum of History Dock, which provides a breathtaking view of Parliament Hill and the river, in an expanded, universally accessible riverside area. And great news for cycling enthusiasts: the Museum is now certified Bienvenue cyclists! (welcome cyclists), making it an even more enticing stop during an active getaway in Gatineau.
