Obadjiwan–Fort Témiscamingue National Historic Site
Abitibi-Témiscamingue
Historic site
There was a time when it took travellers 25 days by canoe from Montreal to reach Fort-Témiscamingue. Here, nearly two centuries of fur-trading history have come to life. Obadjiwan-Fort-Témiscamingue is also a reminder of the millennia-old Algonquin presence in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region. This site is now under shared governance with members of the region's First Nations. The site occupies a privileged location on a point of land formed by a narrowing in Lake Témiscamingue, where the two shores come within 250 metres of each other. On-site activities, workshops, exhibitions and guided tours are available all summer long.
