An odyssey into the heart of history

The theme of this year’s event Archéo sur la route: voyager au cœur des mémoires (archaeology on the road: a journey into the heart of memories) highlights the cultural encounters, networks of exchange and great human adventures that have shaped Quebec over millennia. From the earliest peoples to the various waves of settlement across the territory, each archaeological site tells a part of local history and bears witness to its rich heritage. From one region to the next, this event will take you on a journey to discover captivating places and the traces left behind by those who came before us. 

A program for the whole family

More than 60 activities hosted in 11 different regions of Quebec await you throughout the month of August, including more than 40 that are free. Participatory excavations, interactive workshops, guided tours of historic sites and museums, lectures, exhibitions, games and various shows are just a few of the things to look forward to for a true immersion into the world of archaeology. 

You’ll have the chance to meet seasoned experts, explore iconic or lesser-known sites and gain a deeper understanding of Indigenous cultures as well as the cultural exchanges that have shaped Quebec’s history. Whether you’re up for getting your hands dirty at an excavation or looking forward to attending a lecture, there are activities for everyone, tailored to your interests.
