Attend an authentic military ceremony

Every morning until August 30, 2026, head to La Citadelle for the Changing of the Guard ceremony. This ceremony is at once a show, a celebration and a tradition, as the 22e Régiment march to the sound of the snare drum and brass instruments played by Musique en Rouge (translated as, music in red), the summer military brass band.

After the ceremony, end the activity on a fun note by meeting the regiment’s mascot Batisse, a white billy goat proudly wearing the regiment’s colours. Definitely a fun photo op!

Take a guided tour

Learn about every aspect of the fortress with a guide. The approximately hour-long outdoor tour will teach you more about the citadel and how it has withstood the test of time until today, bearing witness to a rich history. Given the site’s location atop the cape, the tour also provides a wonderful opportunity to admire the panoramic views of Château Frontenac and the St. Lawrence River, surrounded by mountains and Old Québec City.

For a completely different ambiance, opt for a night tour (available on Fridays and Saturdays in October) to twinkling city lights. Group tours are also available.

Through an extensive collection of artifacts, uniforms, weapons, photographs and archival documents, it invites visitors to learn about Canadian military history through this regiment and the men and women who played a role.
