At the heart of maritime history

At the confluence of the Saint Lawrence and Richelieu rivers, the Lac Saint-Pierre Biosphere Region became an important navigational crossroads over the centuries.

Confluence retraces this maritime history through an immense mural, life-size objects and testimonials that bring to life the evolution of operations in the region’s ports.

The exhibit highlights knowledge of naval shipyards, where tugboats, warships and numerous commercial vessels were constructed.

The legendary Bateaux Blancs, among other fleets, on which many citizens worked, left their mark on Sorel-Tracy’s history.

Journey into the past

Visited by humans for millenia, the land beneath Sorel-Tracy also boasts rich archeological heritage. The Confluence exhibit invites you to go back in time with its artifacts from two important excavation sites. Some historical remnants come from land bordering the marsh’s stream, inhabited by Indigenous peoples more than 5000 years ago; others from the Mandeville site, an old Iroquoi village occupied between 1350 and 1550.

These discoveries bear witness to the communities that have inhabited this territory over the centuries and make it possible to know more about the region.

This summer, enjoy a fascinating outing and set off to discover the past, biodiversity, and maritime history at the Confluence exhibit.
