Agricultural fairs bring people together: meeting talented producers, watching children giggle as they make friends at the petting zoo and enjoying long, unhurried conversations with people at the tables around you. On July 3, 4 and 5, 2026, Calixa-Lavallée, a rural municipality in Montérégie, less than an hour’s drive from Montréal, is continuing this great tradition by holding its agricultural fair for the 146th year.

Admission remains affordable, and free for children under 12, and the program promises a good time for young people as well as their parents and grandparents, who come to relive and share a part of their youth.
Draft horse carriage driving is back!
Great news for carriage driving enthusiasts! After a hiatus of several years, the draft horse carriage driving competition will be back on Sunday, July 5, 2026, starting at 11 a.m. Watch animals weighing up to a tonne being precisely manoeuvred by their handlers on a course that requires as much strategy as it does muscle. The sheer horsepower is always impressive, but so is the bond between human and animal, formed through hours of training.

Break Syndical tribute band to perform Cowboys Fringants songs
On Saturday, July 4, 2026, at 8 p.m., the marquee will turn into a large musical gathering. Break Syndical, a group of eight musicians, will take to the stage to pay tribute to the Cowboys Fringants. Expect hit after hit, played with incredible energy and respect for the original songs. It will be the kind of evening where you find yourself singing along with the stranger next to you and leave with a hoarse voice and a big grin.
Taste, smell and understand with Agro-Passion
Throughout the weekend, Agro-Passion’s discovery booths will be presenting two unusual themes: edible flowers and hot peppers. In the marquee, get an enthusiastic explanation about these plants and their fruit and be given a chance to smell and taste them. Discover unexpected flavours and feel free to ask any questions that spring to mind. The experience will be hands-on, accessible and will have participants wanting to visit the farmers’ market the next week to get ingredients for a new recipe. A nice way to extend the fun of the fair long after it ends!
