Located in Gatineau, the Canadian Museum of History offers an educational experience that perfectly combines fun and discovery, to introduce kids and parents alike to world history and other cultures.

Discovering Indigenous traditions

This winter, the Winterlude Mini Powwow, organized and presented by Experiences autochtones, will transport you to the heart of different Indigenous traditions. A true cultural celebration, the powwow is a gathering full of spiritual significance where communities come together to honour their roots through traditional dances, to the captivating beat of drums. This mini powwow will feature an opening ceremony called the Grand Entry, intertribal drumming and dance artists of different ages and styles. While you're there, be sure to visit the Indian Residential School Memorial Monument, a place of remembrance that offers a unique opportunity to talk to children about this painful but important chapter in Canada’s history.

Note that admission to the powwow is free, but that you will need a separate ticket to visit the rest of the museum.

A trip to Antarctica

Did you know that the museum also houses a cinema with a large 3D screen? CINÉ+ will blow you away with its brand-new film Antarctica, immersing you in the majestic icy landscapes of this wild territory on the other side of the world. Beneath the ice nearly two metres thick, you'll swim alongside seals, penguins, fin whales and other creatures that demonstrate an incredible ability to adapt to this extreme environment. It's the ideal way to discover this remote and mysterious continent, but also to appreciate the fragility of our planet.

A great adventure around the world

Ready for a trip around the world? At the Canadian Children's Museum, located inside the Canadian Museum of History, you'll travel from one continent to another. Observe hieroglyphs inside the Egyptian pyramid, explore a Japanese house with pretty dolls, climb aboard a Pakistani bus decorated with colourful suitcases... each space offers an opportunity to discover the richness of different cultures around the world. Now is a good time to plan a visit since the museum will be closing temporarily in January 2026 for a makeover!
