Portneuf is not only a region known for magnificent nature that is a joy to explore, it’s also a place that offers a wealth of cultural and food-focused experiences you can enjoy at your own pace. Here are three summer road trip ideas that promise plenty of discoveries in this splendid region near Québec City.

A road trip into history

The Chemin du Roy (King’s Road) is an iconic tourist route that follows the trail of the very first roadway in North America. It also happens to pass through some of the most beautiful villages in Portneuf. The 78-km stretch of road in the region is dotted with exceptional places to stop and discover rich heritage and culture. From ancestral homes and mills to churches, museums, shops and restaurants, the range of possibilities is vast. You’ll also find breathtaking views of the St. Lawrence along the way, so take the time to stop at one of the many riverside spots to soak up the amazing scenery.

Discover the region’s hidden cultural treasures

As you can imagine, art and culture are omnipresent in Portneuf. And there are plenty of ways to experience it, from public art displays to antique shops to the many art galleries. Even outside, landscapes are marked by culture. What would you say to a stroll through the heart of the forest in a wooden pipe that once powered a hydroelectric plant. How about a picnic beside the ruins of an ancient mill? You might even come across a charcoal kiln (Portneuf actually used to be Quebec’s main charcoal producer). Discover where to find these unusual attractions and create your own itinerary to experience culture in a different way.

A bike tour for foodie cyclists

Hop on your bike and set off in search of local flavours. Portneuf offers a unique experience for biking and food enthusiasts, whether on the Route Verte (Green Road) or any of the other cycling trails in Portneuf. Along the way, cyclists can stop off at local producers, who will be delighted to showcase their specialties, and public markets which are perfect for stocking up on homegrown produce.

What's more, the 4th edition of La virée enracinée, a food festival that runs until September 1, is the perfect opportunity to discover 13 Portneuf restaurants and snack bars that will be serving up tastings and friendly chats. Each stop is a celebration of the authentic flavours of Portneuf and an experience that is both delectable and unforgettable!
